Every person on the street has their own unique story. They all traveled down different paths to homelessness. Many came from abusive families. Some were sexually, physically or verbally abused so badly that their only option was to run for their lives. Others come from a long and devastating history of mental illness and/or drug and alcohol abuse. Many are just down on their luck; victims of foreclosure, the economy and high unemployment. The stories are as varied as the people that tell them. There is a way that you can help without sending anyone money, and we call it Project 36.
We started Project 36 to empower you to get out on the streets and have a direct impact in your community. It's not difficult and it's not expensive, but it will make a huge difference in someone's life.
It really is a very simple concept. The next time you go shopping pick up some of the items from the list, put them in a ziplock bag and give them to someone on the street. That's all you need to do to help someone. Just get off your couch and get out there. Homelessness is a community issue, and lessening the suffering requires a hand from everyone in the community. This is your chance for you to make a real difference. You can do it. You really can.
